Under our floriculture program, very small land holding farmers have opted to grow flowers, such as roses, marigold, chrysanthemums, and jasmine. There are permanent plots and also seasonal plots. Cumulatively, there are 5,679 plots of floriculture. Mostly on 0.05 hectare (5 guntha or 1/8 of an acre) each farmer from this permanent plot on such a small patch of land gets between Rs. 40 to Rs.60 thousand a year. This means, cumulatively, our farmers are earning in the range of Rs.22 to 34 crores. This highly profitable activity is constrained by the market need as well as the availability of water around the year for permanent plots. Currently, only the local market of Dahod district is covered; if a bigger market can be accessed along with better transportation, this program can be scaled up to 10,000 permanent plots in Dahod district alone.
