COMMUNITY LIFT IRRIGATION SCHEMES
Based on appropriate technology transfer Sadguru Foundation has been implementing Community Lift Irrigation schemes for the tribals and rural poor in western Indian states. Lift Irrigation helps bring irrigation water to the fields that are not adjacent to a surface water resource, such as river, lake or canal.
Cumulatively, 401 Community Lift Irrigation schemes have been executed by the Foundation over the years having designed command of about 52,344 acres in one season of Rabi, benefitting 27,200 households. Considering the fact that many of these projects for the tribals are largely in the radius of 60 kilometers of Dahod and Banswara is a rare achievement. It has created significant, long-term impact on the livelihood of the beneficiaries.
The highlight of the program is that these Community Irrigation projects have been fully managed only by the community without any post-project support from the government or any organisation. The tribal community deserves credit for successfully managing most of the community irrigation projects. Unlike their counterparts of Public Irrigation systems, these tribals pay fully for the operation and the maintenance of the projects.
