WELLS DEVELOPMENT & RECHARGING

Under various programmes, we address and execute ground water development through wells and recharging of the wells. Cumulatively, we are instrumental in directly developing or recharging 18,459 wells in our project area.

The Central Ground Water Board under the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India and many others have acknowledged that Sadguru’s project areas have witnessed ground water increase. This can be attributed to the massive network of water harvesting structures, massive plantation and substantial watershed development activities undertaken by Sadguru.

A recent study by INREM Foundation under the guidance of internationally known NRM experts have found that Sadguru’s check dams being of relatively bigger size improve ground water from 5-10 kilometres on both sides of the structure. This is revolutionary finding given our work has not only provided surface water to our beneficiaries in the time of need but also contributed to the increase in ground water level which is under tremendous pressure due to unrestricted boring and extraction. Obviously, this has indirectly benefited many existing open dug wells resulting in greater agriculture development across the region.
